150,000 Private Sector Jobs Eyed For Kuwaitis

The government is discussing a study to Kuwaitize tens of thousands of jobs in the private sector, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily added, this is one of the expected scenarios during the next stage on the employment front.

According to sources, the government plan is aimed at replacing the jobs occupied by expatriates and can be replaced by Kuwaitis, according to which it will reject new applications for appointments of expatriates in the jobs identified in the study and include a large number of administrative jobs such as legal, secretarial and others.

The same sources added this step will raise the money paid by the state to support labor to about one billion dinars, especially as the government moves to reduce between 130,000 and 150,000 by 8 percent and 10 percent of the total expatriate labor in the private sector which stands 1.6 million.

The Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Maryam Al-Aqeel, is responsible for coordinating with several parties to finalize a new strategy for the development of the national workforce in the private sector.

Al-Aqeel said in response to a question by MP Mohammed Al-Dallal that the government agencies are working on this strategy to increase the opportunities for Kuwaitis to obtain jobs in the private sector.

These trends may clash with the reality of the sector in which expatriate employment continues to grow, albeit to a lesser extent than before, revealing the continuing need for considerable number of expatriates for jobs, according to private sector sources.
