36000 Citations Issued And 55 Motorists Arrested
General Traffic Department (GTD) under the supervision of the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs of the Ministry of Interior Major General Jamal Al Sayegh launched traffic campaigns which resulted in the issuance of 36,000 citations and the arrest of 55 motorists of different nationalities for committing serious traffic offenses and impounded 26 vehicles and towed them to the ministry garage, seized eight vehicles wanted by law, arrested seven motorists for driving without licence and referred those arrested to the concerned authorities, reports Al-Anba daily.
The largest number of violations, during the campaign was recorded in the Governorates of the Capital and Hawalli, followed by Jahra, Al-Ahmadi, Al-Farwaniya and Mubarak Al-Kabeer respectively. Giving a breakdown a security source said the Capital Governorate recorded 7,474 violations and 22 arrests; Hawalli accounted for 6,863 violations, 5 arrests and 3 vehicles impounded. In Al-Farwaniya 15 motorists were arrested including 4 wanted by law for criminal and civil offences, and 3 wanted vehicles were seized and 4,278 citations were issued. In Jahra 4,542 citations were issued and three motorists were arrested and two vehicles were seized. As for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Traffic Department, 2023 citations were issued, three motorists were arrested.
