Kuwait Expat Workers Urged To Avail Of Permit Amnesty

09 July 2015 Kuwait

Expat workers in Kuwait have been granted a grace period to allow them to transfer work permits from a suspended company to other companies before the end of August.

Kuwait Times reports that the Director of the Labour Inspection at the Manpower Public Authority, Sultan Hassan, urged those expat workers who are still registered with suspended companies to get an official letter from the immigration detectives’ directorate at the Dajeej department which will lift arrest orders issued against them.

Hassan said that just 100 of the 33,000 labourers registered in the 6,770 suspended companies have availed of the grace period, with many afraid they will be arrested if they turn up at the department.

“The department might have to work afternoon shifts in case of a surge in workers seeking work permit transfers” Hassan told the newspaper.
