A 7 Years Old Saudi Boy Drives Car With Gun In Hand
Police in the Saudi capital Riyadh have arrested a father who allowed his seven-year-old son to drive a car while brandishing a gun. The arrest was based on a 31-second video footage showing the son who could barely see beyond the steering wheel driving the vehicle and talking with his father, reportedly a poet.
The father who was filming the son driving, asked him to show off the pistol he was carrying. The son obliged, holding the steering wheel with one hand and using the other to bring the gun into focus. A smaller boy could be seen standing on the driver’s seat, next to the window.
The footage, which has been watched over 180,000 times on YouTube, caused an uproar in Saudi Arabia and several social media users expressed outrage, calling for stringent action against the father for putting people’s lives at risk and recklessly encouraging the violation of the law.
The police, alerted by the dramatic footage, moved in to arrest the father.
“With reference to the video clip that was circulated on social media and showing a father allowing his juvenile son to drive a private vehicle and possessing a gun and encouraging him to use, directives have been issued to identify the man and arrest him,” Fawaz Al Miman, the spokesperson for Riyadh police, said.
“Investigators were able to arrest the man, a Saudi national in his 50s. During the questioning, he admitted that he filmed his son, seven, in a desert area while he was driving a vehicle, putting lives at risk.
"He also admitted that he was teaching him some expression as a joke and that he posted the footage on a social application. The gun that was shown in the video clip was confiscated,” Al Miman said, quoted by Saudi news site Sabq. The father has been referred to the investigation department for legal action.
