Air Traffic Normal At Airport Despite Dusty Weather

24 September 2018 Weather in Kuwait

Air traffic at Kuwait International Airport is normal despite the dust storm hitting the country, Directorate General of Civil Aviation said Saturday.

Flights to and from the airport are ongoing and have not been affected by the current weather conditions, Eng Emad Al-Sanousi, Director of the DGCA’s Department of Air Traffic, told KUNA.

Current visibility level at Kuwait Airport allows takeoffs and landings in compliancy with the airport standards, Al-Sanousi added.

Meanwhile, dust caused by northwestern winds from Iraq, had resulted in low visibility in some areas, said a Kuwaiti meteorologist Saturday. The dust has reduced horizontal vision to less than 1,000 meters and it is moving towards inner residential areas, indicated Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi.

The meteorologist affirmed that weather conditions would improve in the few upcoming hours. Furthermore Sea navigation at Shuaiba, Doha and Shuwaikh ports has not been affected by the dust storm which is currently hitting the country, Kuwait Port Authority (KPA) said on Saturday.

Navigation is going on normally at Shuwaikh Port and technical teams are monitoring weather conditions, Bader Al-Enzi, head of operation at the port, told KUNA. Navigation will be suspended immediately if necessity arises, he noted.

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that navigation at Kuwait International Airport is normal, despite witnessed dust in the country. Earlier in the day, Meteorological Department said that dust, caused by northwestern winds from Iraq, led to low visibility in some areas in the country. The dust lessened horizontal vision to less than 1,000 meters, with northwesterly winds, it added, noting that dust is moving towards inner residential areas.
