All Health Licenses Issued By Kuwait Municipality Since July 15 Have Been Cancelled - Al-enezi
Acting Director of Inspection for Jahra and Ahmadi Governorates at the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition Dr Nawaf Al-Enezi affirmed that all health licenses issued by Kuwait Municipality since July 15 have been cancelled, reports Al-Rai daily.
Al-Enezi explained that health licences issued by Kuwait Municipality since July 15, 2018 stands canceled due to transfer of the Municipality’s specialties to the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition. He called on all shop owners obtaining health licenses after the aforementioned date to do the needful.
He revealed this to the daily during an inspection tour of the fish market, as well as meat and poultry shops at Al- Kout Complex in Fahaheel area. He said the inspection tour was conducted upon directives from Director General Issa Al-Kandari and the Deputy Director General of Inspection Amal Al- Rushdan.
The tour was part of preparations for the new school season during which several shops were inspected for the sake of consumer safety after the transfer of food and nutrition section at Kuwait Municipality to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He stressed the inspection procedures carried out by the department included a check on the identity of the worker, uniform, commercial licence and worker’s health card.
He called on the Ministry of Health to issue license to workers in the form of ‘magnetized’ card or a certified card, and not a health card with the holder’s image on a plain paper that makes it vulnerable to forgery. In the meantime, 22 food samples were taken from different shops and sent for laboratory testing, while inspectors shut down 7 shops for different reasons, and issued 36 citations and 6 certificates of export.
The government recently increased the strategic food reserve as part of its plan for enhancing food security in Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily. According to informed sources, the current food reserve can cover for six months.
Ministry of Commerce and Industry bought double the quantities of food items to cover the requirements of citizens for distribution via ration cards. The value of the stock for one month is KD 90 million. Large quantities of commodities are put up for distribution regularly in batches based on their expiry dates so that they are out of the warehouses before they become expired. The strategic reserve quantity is then maintained by supplying the warehouses with more food items
