Anti-corruption Unit Of Bangladesh To Investigate Human Trafficking Allegation Against One Of Its Parliamentarians
The Bangladesh government has announced it will ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the allegations made by the Al-Qabas daily that a Bangladeshi Member of Parliament is accused of human trafficking, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The Bangladeshi newspaper, Dhaka Tribune, reported that the Secretary-General of the ruling party in Bangladesh announced that he will ask the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the matter, and reiterated the position taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fight corruption.
The government stated, according to the newspaper, the government will take legal steps against the accused, if the allegations about his involvement in human trafficking are proven true.
The newspaper quoted the Minister of Transport and Bridges as telling reporters: “Legal measures will be taken if there is any complaint of corruption against the parliamentarian.”
The newspaper reported the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas that a Bangladeshi Member of Parliament was accused of trafficking in human in Kuwait. The Dhaka Tribune reported that it had contacted the Bangladeshi embassy in Kuwait and learned through it the name of the suspect.
However, the Bangladeshi ambassador in Kuwait said: “The reports did not mention the name of the deputy … and ‘they’ refused to give me this name.”
