Asphalt Quality Ensured As Mpw Starts Repairs On King Fahd Road
While the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) carries out, the maintenance work on the King Fahd Road which extends for up to 60 days, informed sources said that the plan is based primarily on quality control, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting informed sources.
The same sources said the ministry’s teams of Kuwaiti engineers oversee the work of asphalt laying to ensure its components and specifications are in line with what is mentioned in the contracts. This is in addition to supervising the asphalt plants and the laboratory.
Sources pointed out that the Ministry’s supervisors, prior to the start of work of King Fahd Road, took several readings of the new asphalt, including measuring the temperature of up to 150 degrees Celsius, and the cohesion of components, in addition to taking samples after the laying in order to ensure compliance with the specifications approved by the ministry.
Sources say, the ministry is keen to carry out the work according to the time plan and accelerate the repair of the streets to eliminate the phenomenon of ‘fl ying gravel’ once and for all.
On the other hand, the official spokeswoman for the ministry Iman Al-Omar said the Ministry and the Public Road Authority are committed to the decision of the Council of Ministers and the of the Central Tender Committee (CTC) on the non-signing of any new contracts with any company that did not obtain a certificate of clearance.
Al-Omar said in a statement the two sides (the ministry and Public Road Authority) have contracts with a number of companies that were concluded before the decision of the Council of Ministers not to allow companies and engineering offices to participate in any new projects before certificate of clearance, noting that the repairs are currently underway through contracts in force or those under the contractual guaranteeing period or in the ten-year guarantee period, not new contracts.
