Blogger Gets Jail For Offending Leadership

The Misdemeanor Court sentenced in absentia a Kuwaiti blogger Saqer Al-Hashash to a jail term of one year and eight months with hard labor and bond payment of KD 200 for suspending the execution of the verdict. Al-Hashash was accused of violating the national security and cybercrime laws.

The court had previously convicted Al-Hashash for various offences, sentencing him in absentia to a total jail term of 101 years and six months. According to the case file, the security apparatus had charged the suspect of allegedly posting on his Twitter account statements deemed offensive to the leadership of the country.
