08 October 2019 Crime News

When it came to the attention of the concerned authorities that a licensed café operating as a restaurant and café in Salmiya offered ‘Champagne’, ‘Red Wine’ on the beverage menu for patrons, personnel from the Hawalli Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry accompanied by a judicial officer from the Ministry of Interior paid a surprise visit to the coffee shop, reports Al-Rai daily.

During the inspection tour, the officials discovered that the café not only offered champagne and red wine, but the menu also included ‘Mexican beer’.

During the scrutiny of the country of origin, the officials did not find any type of alcoholic drinks but surprisingly the price of drinks was three times more than the rest of the drinks, and the officials raised their eyebrows. However, the authorities issued four citations against the café – for violation of the public order, through the use of labels of alcoholic drinks, listing these items on the menu of food and drinks, absence of ‘warning’ signs showing the risks of using energy drinks, and for lack of description of the foods and beverages sold at the place type and country of origin. This is in addition to displaying the products without permission from the Ministry of Commerce.
