Chairman Of Fktu Affirmed Representation Of All Trade Unions
Chairman of the Federation of Kuwait Trade Unions (FKTU) Engineer Salem Al-Ajmi affirmed the federation is considered a full representation of all trade unions. In other words, it represents all Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti workers within the Kuwaiti territories whether they are parts of the syndicates or not.
Engineer Al-Ajmi made this known Monday morning at a press conference organized by the federation to launch a pamphlet titled “Your Rights at Work” in collaboration with the American Center for International Labor Solidarity. He added the federation protects rights of workers and strives hard to fulfill their demands and stand up for their social and economic interests in all perspectives. He declared that expatriate workers who constitute the majority of workers in the society are deprived of organized unions to protect their rights as enshrined in the labor law.
He stated the subject matter is regarded as extremely significant, because the pamphlet serves as the guide for workers in Kuwait. He observed that expatriate workers are oblivious of their rights due to language and educational reasons or inability to lay hands on laws for easy and clear perusal.
“This is why many workers to a large extent are deprived of certain services and rights granted them constitutionally. He declared the federation established an office for expatriate workers since 1994, which has always been up and doing in fulfilling the anticipated roles. He indicated the federation coordinates with relevant Arab and international authorities in that regard, citing the Arab Labor Organization, International Labor Organization, Union of Arab Workers, Confederation of International Trade Unions, and a host of others
