Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Committee to work on completing the application of Sharia law Dr Mohammad Al-Tabtabaei, stressed Thursday the importance of working to show Islam in its true and tolerant form, far from terrorism and extremism. This came during a meeting with Sandzak Mufti in Serbia and Montenegro Abdurrahman Kujevic accompanied by Dean of Serbian Faculty of Islamic Studies, which focused on several issues of common concern.
They also discussed religious cooperation between the two countries and how to benefit from legal and research experiences, scientific exchange as well as modern means of communications, Al-Tabtabaei said to KUNA. Al-Tabtabaei also urged the delegation to work to show Islam in its clear form away from violence and extremism and to set a good example in their societies by communicating with them through modern means.

For his part, Mufti Kujevic praised the role played by the Advisory Committee, expressing his wish to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between the two sides. He also praised the leading role of Kuwait in the Islamic world, inviting the head of the committee to visit Serbia and Islamic centers there. He added that his country’s Muslims enjoy full religious freedom and that there are many mosques, noting that the Muslims of Serbia make up about ten percent of the Serbs and that the state recognizes Islam as an offi cial religion, unlike some countries in the West. He stressed that the Islamic religion is deep-rooted in the hearts of Serbian citizens, stressing their keenness to uphold their religious duties and perform their rituals freely.
