Committee Chairman Welcomed Back To The National Assembly

Parliamentary Human Rights Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi welcomed MPs Waleed Al-Tabtabaei and Jaman Al-Harbash back to the National Assembly. Al-Tabtabaei and Al-Harbash were among those sentenced to jail for storming the Parliament building. The accused were granted temporary release until the Court of Cassation issues its verdict. “We welcome free people to the committee meeting slated for Thursday to discuss results of our visit to the family home in the Welfare Home,” Al-Damkhi added.

On another issue, Al-Damkhi criticized those in charge of the new terminal at Kuwait International Airport which costs about KD 55 million as the building will be completed within two weeks only during the national holidays. He then stressed the need to allow all companies to bid for the project. Meanwhile, MP Ahmed Nabil Al- Fadel revealed some MPs are under pressure to grill Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al- Sabeeh, so they have been unable to face their constituents.

He claimed some of his colleagues are trying to divert public attention from themselves by fabricating stances with other lawmakers; indicating the MPs who called for a special session to discuss government measures to address the lopsided population structure issue intend to insult expatriates as if the latter entered the country by force. “These MPs want to embarrass Kuwait in front of friendly and sisterly countries, forgetting the fact that expatriates are integral parts of the nation,” he asserted.

On the Parliament building storming case and temporary release of the accused, Al-Fadel hopes the court’s decision remains against the perpetrators because they committed a public crime and they should be punished. He emphasized the need to take this action to deter others from committing the same crime which he considers dangerous and unjustifiable. Commenting on the rumored dissolution of the Parliament, Al-Fadel urged his colleagues to accomplish many tasks as possible; because no parliament is assured of completing its tenure.
