Court Acquits Youth Of Physical Abuse

The Court of Cassation overturned the verdict of the Court of Appeals that sentenced a motorcyclist to 20 months in prison with hard labor. The apex court thereby acquitted the defendant of physically abusing a Kuwaiti compatriot to the point of breaking his nose during an altercation down Love Street at night. The lawsuit indicated the plaintiff was driving around the vicinity with three friends on the day in question when the defendant who was riding a motorbike engaged him in a quarrel. The defendant then attacked him physically and broke his nose, which caused him severe pain. He supported the claim with a medical report. Defense lawyer Abdul- Mohsin Al-Qattan faulted the verdict of the Court of Appeals, saying it did not have any legal substance to prove the allegation against his client. He emphasized there was no concrete evidence to prove that his client actually committed the crime, especially with contradictions and inconsistencies in the testimonies of witnesses.

Case dismissed: The Public Prosecution has dismissed the case which the Health Ministry filed against Al-Rai daily as per the directive of former Health Minister Dr Jamal Al-Harbi and Chest Diseases Hospital Director Dr Reem Al-Asousi due to the publication of an article about a Syrian child with the headline, “Chest Hospital refused to conduct surgery on a Syrian child after putting him under anesthesia unless KD 3,000 is paid according to the new medical fees imposed on expatriates,” reports Al-Rai daily. The daily intends to sue Al-Harbi and Al-Asousi
