Court Acquitted A Arab Expat In Kidnap Of Kuwaiti Spouse

07 October 2015 Kuwait

The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by a lower court which sentenced an Arab expatriate to five-year imprisonment followed by deportation over allegations of theft, attacking his Kuwaiti wife and attempting to kidnap her.

The court instead acquitted him of all the allegations. According to the case file, the Public Prosecution accused the suspect of stealing some movable assets belonging to his estranged Kuwaiti wife, and beating her causing injuries, which were specified in the medical report. He was also accused of attempting to kidnap the woman, but his plan failed due to the large number of people who gathered along the roadside where the woman fell unconscious.

However, the defense counsel Attorney Yousef Al-Yousef insisted that the allegations were merely malicious with the intention to indict his client. Affirming that the statements and evidences against his client were contradicting and inconsistent, he stressed that his client was innocent.
