06 April 2017 Crime News

The Court of Appeals acquitted an inmate of Central Prison who was accused of smuggling drugs into the Central Prison in violation of the prison regulations. The Public Prosecution had accused the inmate, who was sentenced to jail term of three years and three months over a drug-related case and a life sentence over another drugrelated case, of possessing heroin. According to the case file, a prison guard said he was on duty when he noticed the suspect leave the prison hospital with a small packet. He checked the packet to find a nail clipper with a brown substance taped to it. The substance was discovered to be a drug. Lawyer Essa Bin Ali from the office of Lawyer Mohammad Al-Majdi stressed the lack of connection between the seized object and his client. He indicated that the description of the seized object as per the Public Prosecution is different from what was sent to the Criminal Investigations Department. He also pointed out the fact that there are no other witnesses besides the guard whose testimony is not enough to convict his client.
