The Court of Cassation upheld the verdict of the First Instance Court which acquitted former MPs Musallam Al-Barrak, Mubarak Al-Wa’laan and Salim Al-Namlan, and political activist Abbas Al-Shaa’bi of offending the King of Jordan. The Public Prosecution had earlier charged the defendants with spreading false news concerning the internal situation of the country (Kuwait) with the intention of damaging national welfare. In addition, Al-Barrak was charged with spreading baseless information as he claimed in an interview on a French television channel that there are 3,500 Jordanian security personnel inside Kuwait. The prosecution also accused them of participating, along with others, in an illegal gathering and failure to follow the dispersal order issued by security officers but all the defendants denied the charges.
