Court Of Appeal Has Drawn The Curtain For 10 Year Old Fraud Case
The Commercial Court of Appeal has drawn the curtain on embezzlement at Sabah Al-Salem Cooperative Society case after 10 years of litigation by upholding the verdict of First Instance Court that ordered former board chairman of the society to pay KD 510,000.
The lawsuit filed representative of the cooperative society Lawyer Abdul-Aziz Al-Enezi affirmed that the defendant was indicted in a final criminal verdict delivered in 2008. He said the court confirmed that the defendant betrayed trust while serving as the board chairman by signing several contracts with an establishment he personally owned without securing authorization from the administration. He was also accused of unilaterally importing some goods at ridiculous prices far beyond the market prices and appropriated KD 300,000 belonging to the society for personal benefit. The court sentenced him to one year in prison with hard labor based upon the aforementioned charges. The lawyer also urged the court to appoint an expert to estimate the total sum the defendant embezzled with interest and compensation to the administration over losses incurred in that regard.
