25 March 2018 Crime News

The Commercial Court of Cassation ordered a landlord who is a lawyer to pay compensation of KD 70,000 to the heirs of an expatriate who died when an elevator collapsed inside the building owned by the lawyer. The court considers the landlord responsible for the neglect that caused the accident.

According to the lawsuit filed by the counsel to the heirs Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz, they demanded for legitimate blood money and compensation over their deceased patriarch. They revealed that the incident injured some workers, but many others, including their patriarch, had died, supporting their claim with a medical report. The heirs accused the landlord of negligence and failure to follow safety and security regulations, as he didn’t insure the elevator or sign a contract for steady maintenance. There was also no indication about the capacity and limit of weight the elevator could carry.
