Court Postponed The Session On The National Assembly Storming Case

The Court of Cassation, presided over by Judge Saleh Al-Muwaished, postponed the session on the National Assembly storming case until March 11, 2018 to take a decision on the travel ban imposed on the convicts and ask the Public Prosecution about the body which imposed the ban. Lawyers for the convicts urged the court to accept their appeals and uphold the decision of the First Instance Court that acquitted their clients.

They also asked the court to lift the travel ban. Attorney Muhammad Al-Hemaidi, one of the lawyers for the accused, stressed there is no law preventing MPs and their companions from entering the National Assembly at night. He then called on the prosecution to prove otherwise. Al-Hemaidi asserted the accused are patriotic youths and even those who disagree with them said so. He pointed out it is strange that such patriotic youths are in jail while corrupt individuals are free and enjoy stealing public money.

The Criminal Court sentenced blogger Saqr Al-Hashash to three years in prison with hard labor. With this sentence, the total number of years of imprisonment imposed on Al-Hashahsh reached 63 years due to different lawsuits filed against him – most of which are State security cases.
