Kuwaiti’s Death Sentence Commuted To 15 Years
The Court of Appeals commuted the death sentence imposed on a 37-year-old Kuwaiti man by the Court of First Instance for the murder of a Bedoun to 15 years in prison. The proceedings indicated that the defendant committed the offense in a premeditated manner in Sulaibiyah in October 2018. The detectives arrested him nine days after the crime when he parked his car in Firdous. They found illegal weapons inside the car and then caught him in his hiding place in Salmi.
Verdict upheld: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Ali Al- Durai’a upheld the verdict issued by a lower court which acquitted two Kuwait employees of Ministry of Defense who were accused of committing fraud to obtain Kuwaiti citizenship. As per the testimony of the relevant officer from General Department of Passports and Citizenship Affairs, his investigations revealed that a citizen, who died in 2013, had agreed with the fathers of the first and second suspects to add their names on their files as sons and give them new names in exchange for money. The agreement enabled the citizen to obtain Kuwaiti citizenship and Kuwaiti civil ID cards for the first and second suspects. The suspects used fake documents at different state institutions with the awareness that the documents are fake. As per these documents, the two were working at Ministry of Defense due to which they received cash and privileges illegally from Ministry of Defense and Public Authority for Housing Welfare. The officer said the suspects admitted during investigations that they committed the crime of forgery.
