Decision To Suspend Camping Season Wins Support

28 December 2018 Kuwait

Kuwait Human Rights Society supports the decision to suspend this year’s camping season and suggested limiting the camping season to two months annually for the next five years.

In a press statement, the society explained that its position is out of its concern for the safety and security of people frequenting the desert areas, especially since the country witnessed heavy floods last month which exposed several mines planted by the Iraqis during the invasion of Kuwait.

The society affirmed the importance of reducing pressure on the terrestrial environment caused by the camping season and to curb malpractices affecting the desert environment.

It also emphasized the need to enhance and promote values and the concept ‘every citizen is a guard,’ obligating every citizen and expatriate to report environmental violations.
