27 March 2019 Kuwait

The meeting of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly on Monday witnessed a difference on some articles of the law regulating the legal profession between the Ministry of Justice and the Kuwait Bar Association (KBA), reports Al-Jarida daily quoting its sources.

The sources said the most prominent differences are the “fees”, as well as the insistence of the KBA not to register any contract except through a lawyer, and the adherence of each company to hire a lawyer, an amendment strongly objected by the ministry.

After the meeting, the committee chairman MP Khaled Al-Shatti told the daily the committee will spare no efforts for the benefit of justice and all segments of the lawyers and citizens, pointing out that they listened to the views of the Ministry and the KBA, most of which was an agreement between them and some differences.

Al-Shatti added that despite the contradiction between the two parties, both seek the public interest from own point of view, noting that the Committee will consider the subject at its next meeting; to reach points of agreement in order to develop and maintain the profession of law.

This comes at a time when the Interior and Defense Committee of the National Assembly will hold an important meeting in the presence of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Nasser Al-Sabah and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah.
