Discover America Celebration To Be Held From Oct 26 To Nov 8

The US Embassy in Kuwait announced its 6th annual Discover America celebration which will be held from Oct 26 to Nov 8. At a press roundtable with US Embassy Senior Commercial Officer Jeff Hamilton and Press Attaché Heather Ward, shared that the festival would highlight iconic US fashion brands, food, film, music tourism, automobiles, sports, and business know-how.

The events will take place at a number of venues across the country from the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry to Kuwait University and Yarmouk Cultural Centre, along with multiple shopping centers and hotels.

The festival will also feature special discounts and promotional events from partners at many American brands and establishments. Hamilton pointed out that it was a record year for the campaign as it will encompass 24 events held over 15 days. He expressed that this was a great opportunity to highlight many American offerings in a short span of time and draw attention to the existing close ties between the US and Kuwait.

He informed that over 4,000 US food products were available in the Kuwaiti market along with 75 US food franchises and a number in other areas such as education and fitness. He pointed out there were many opportunities available in other than the food industry and the US Embassy Commercial Office was available to make introductions, conduct due diligence, advise and facilitate partnerships between interested Kuwaiti and American companies.

Press Attaché Ward highlighted the many experiences featured in the calendar ranging from movies and fitness to musical performances and barbeques. The festival kicks off with a 5k Fun Run at the Boulevard mall outdoor track in Salmiya from 7:30 to 9:00 am. While tickets have sold out, she informed that those interested were still welcome to join in the activity.

Following this, a 10k fun bike ride will be held at the Kuwait University Shuwaikh Campus on Saturday morning from 9 am to 10 am. She pointed out that while the screening of ‘First Man’ at Vox cinemas on Oct 30 is by invite only, the Embassy will give away a few tickets as part of a contest. A screening of Patton, a 1970 American epic biographical war film about US General George S. Patton during World War II, will be held at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre on Nov 4 at 7 pm.

The AFCENT band will perform at multiple venues, their public performance will be held at Marina Mall on Nov 9 at 7 pm. Hamilton shared that popular seminars such as “How to Supply to US Military Bases in Kuwait’ with speakers from Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base will be held at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry and ‘How to Buy an American Franchise’ will be held on Nov 6 at the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel.

He shared that the US received 87,000 Kuwaiti visitors last year and the festival will focus on promoting tourism by highlighting locations in the US little known and not typically explored by Kuwaiti tourists.
