Early Retirement Law Recently Passed Source Of Worry For Mps

15 June 2018 Kuwait

The Early Retirement Law, which the National Assembly passed recently, continues to be a source of worry for MPs as some of them believe it will be rejected and returned by the government. MP Ali Al- Duqbassi expects the government to return the law to the Assembly during the parliamentary recess. He believes this will put a damper on relations between the legislative and executive authorities.

Speaking to reporters at the Media Center of the Assembly, Al-Duqbasi vowed to follow up developments related to the law and work towards its ratification in the next legislative term in case the government rejects it. He clarified the government still has time to reject and return the law to the Assembly, disclosing he got confirmation that there will be 33 votes for approving the law in the next term.

He voiced disappointment over this unfortunate development and promised to keep the public informed about future developments, noting that the government’s position became clear 30 days after the Assembly passed the law. “This is not a political issue to be a bone of contention between the two authorities. It is aimed at generating jobs and easing retirement procedures,” he concluded.

Statistics issued by Ministry of Public Works reveal that the total number of supervisory jobs announced and filled by the ministry since January 2014 is 79, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to the statistics, the selection process for the various supervisory positions was subjected to 12 decisions issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Ministry of Public Works. The number of legal lawsuits filed regarding supervisory positions since 2014 up to now reached 18.
