Expats Not Prevented From Teaching

21 August 2019 Kuwait

The Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamed Al- Azmi had rejected the parliamentary proposal to ban non-Kuwaiti faculty members from teaching in summer classes at the Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, pointing out that the proposal does not suit the academic nature of the Kuwait University, reports Al-Anba daily.

In response to a proposal submitted by MP Khalid Al-Shatti, a copy of which has been obtained by the daily, Al-Azmi said, Kuwaitis are teaching in the classroom only as a precaution, as the priority for Kuwaiti members. Al-Azmi added that the preparation of the academic schedule and the performance of teaching staff is a technical and academic process that depends on a number of factors such as the academic schedule and the specialties of the faculty members.

He explained that the list of faculty affairs stipulates that teaching staff are equal in rights and duties, as is the case with all academic institutions, as well as that the distinction between the priorities of faculty members in teaching courses on the basis of nationality will have a negative impact on the reputation of Kuwait University’s academics.
