Finding Epidemic Diseases Among New Expats Arrival Causes Concern
Health sources have expressed concern about the spread of epidemic diseases among expatriate workers and the discovery of positive cases of tuberculosis, AIDS and Hepatitis among expatriate workers after they arrived in the country and retook medical examinations before obtaining residency, reports Al-Anba daily.
The sources believe this may be a result of defects or loopholes in the centers for medical examination of expatriate workers in the labor-exporting countries. It could also be due to recent changes in the system of labor inspection centers that included cancellation of contracts and accreditation of centers that were not previously contracted by Ministry of Health, as those centers were subject to requirements of the ministry and fitness standards stipulated in the regulations of expatriate labor inspection for the GCC countries.
The sources indicated that this could threaten the health security of the country and mark the infiltration of positive infected cases among expatriates despite being subjected to overseas medical examinations. They stressed the need for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its overseas missions in labor-exporting countries to intervene in the matter for upholding the health security of the country, adding that Ministry of Health should take full responsibility in this regard.
Meanwhile, the tender for numbering, immunization and registration of animals has been cancelled, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources. In its recent meeting, the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) decided to postpone the project but the immunization of animals will continue as a precautionary measure to prevent epidemics and infections. Sources added hundreds of diseases and infections are transmitted from animals to humans.
Furthermore, Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality revealed that electricity in 112 bachelor residences in Ahmadi Governorate was disconnected, according to May statistics issued by the Audit and Engineering Department, reports Al-Rai daily.
In this regard, Director of Audit and Engineering Monitoring Department Khalid Al-Hajri explained that the statistics included 276 description certificates, 264 electricity connections, 185 supervision pledges, 267 completion of supervisions, 33 building licenses, 159 various works, 112 warnings to vacate premises, 17 “to whom it may concern” letters, 112 disconnections of electricity from bachelor residences, 26 citations for violation of building regulations, 23 encroachments on state properties, 21 responses to complaints, and seven connections of telephone lines.
