Good Grades To Condition Private Sector Expats For Residence Renewal In Kuwait
While the concerned authorities prepare to start the implementation of a project to verify the certificates of expatriates as a condition for renewal of residence, the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) will not issue work permits for university graduates in the private sector in Kuwait, unless they hold a minimum, of ‘good’ academic grades, reports Al-Rai daily.
“This step comes within the framework of a government plan to amend the population structure and remedy the imbalance since it is keen to ensure that the Kuwaiti labor market hires only high-quality experience professionals and efficient workers,” said the daily quoting a government source.
The source pointed several studies are being carried out by the concerned parties which will be submitted to the Supreme Committee to address the imbalance in the population structure and the Board of Directors of PAM, and will apply the most appropriate ones in the coming months. The source added, “the coming months will see the issuance of several regulatory decisions that will counter trade in visas and prevent unqualified workers from entering Kuwait.”
The source also added the application of the ‘good grade’ condition will first be introduced in the oil sector and mega projects. This is part of the development plan and will gradually cover all labor sectors. The source pointed out the decision is already applied in the government sector appointments particularly in ministries of education and health and the Civil Service Commission is expected to make this mandatory for appointment of expatriates workers in all state agencies irrespective of the contract.
