Government Institutions Have No Right To Prevent Employees From Taking Medical Or Emergency Leave
In view of the change in Eid al-Adha holidays that will start on Wednesday instead of Tuesday, sources from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said the government institutions have no right to prevent employees from taking medical or emergency leave provided the latter have enough leave days yet the direct supervisor may do so if the employee requests leave for other purposes, reports Al- Qabas daily.
Sources revealed the CSC received many queries after the announcement of the change – an indication that most employees intend to take emergency leave on Tuesday especially since several of them have already booked their tickets to spend their holidays outside the country.
Sources clarified the employees have the right to take emergency leave for four days within a year, but it should not be more than two days in a month. Sources said this is in addition to 15 days sick leave with pay, however, the last quarter of the year is about to start so most of the employees have used all their sick leave days. In case an employee has used all 19 days (15 days sick leave and four days emergency leave), the concerned institution may deduct the number of leave days taken from the salary.
Meanwhile, Board Chairperson of Abdullah Al-Noori Charitable Association Jamal Al-Noori said the association will carry out procedures related to the lamb sacrifice for Eid Al-Adha on behalf of the donors, reports Al-Rai daily. He affirmed the association has completed all preparations for the implementation of lamb sacrifice project in 16 countries in Asia and Africa, in a bid to provide for the needs of thousands of poor families in these countries. He revealed the value of one sacrifice donation is KD250 and the association will use donations from those who support this project. He explained the association does everything on behalf of the donors such as buying, slaughtering and distributing the lamb sacrifice. He pointed out the generosity of donors has enabled the association to execute this project in the last two years in 16 countries around the world, including 116 caravans and nearly 40,000 beneficiaries.
