Kuwait’s Al-mousawi Breaks World Record In Scuba Diving
Faisal Al-Mousawi, a Kuwaiti diver with kinetic disability, was honored for setting a new world record in scuba diving. At a celebration hosted by the Public Authority of the Disabled (PAD), he received a Guinness World Records certificate for diving 10 km in five hours, one hour less than the previous record.
PAD Director General Shafiqa Al- Awadhi congratulated him on adding to the achievements made by the Kuwaiti disabled athletes. Al-Mousawi, on his part, said he had to double his efforts in order to break the previous record set by an able-bodied athlete. He added that he trained for three months at the pools of the Scientific Club and one month in the open sea, adding that he used 26 air cylinders of the small size during his record-breaking dive.
Kuwaiti powerlifters smash their way into Morocco Arab championship titles
Meanwhile, Powerlifters Youssef Al-Ateeqi and Humoud Al-Saadoun smashed their way into the 93 and 120 kg titles at the Arab Powerlifting Championship concluded in Morocco recently, said a statement Monday.
Head of the Kuwait Powerlifting Committee (KPC) Dr Adnan Redha told KUNA that both Kuwaiti athletes snatched gold medals in their respective powerlifting competitions at the threeday tournament, which began on Oct 18. Dr Redha indicated that the championships saw strong competition from various powerlifters in the region, representing 12 Arab countries.
In the future, the team will do its utmost to live up to the success made in the Arab championship, affirmed the Kuwaiti official. Powerlifting is a strength competition involving three weightlifting techniques: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Competitors are judged by their technique, form, and amount of maximum weight lifted. Furthermore, the Kuwait women’s ice hockey team departed for Bangkok on Sunday before their second consecutive participation in the annual Land of Smiles tournament, which kicks off next week on Tuesday. The 18-member squad will begin a week-long training schedule ahead of the six-day event, Kuwait Winter Sports Club Deputy Director Khaled Al-Mutairi told KUNA.
They are full of enthusiasm and are adamant to improve upon their performance last time round as they lock horns with opposition of varied global affiliation, the sports official said. In their most recent competition, Kuwait claimed third place in the first-ever women’s Gulf Ice Hockey Tournament held at the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi in May.
