Kuwait Bay In Serious Danger Campaign Chief Warns Officials
National Campaign for the Protection of Kuwait Bay affiliated to Kuwait Green Oasis Campaign has blown the alarm on the challenge of a possible loss of life at the bay through which Kuwait may lose an enviable natural wealth, considering the bay is the second largest habitat for fish in the world, reports Al-Anba daily.
Chairman of the campaign Abdul-Aziz Al-Shatti said it has been recording series of violations at the bay that cause environmental disaster on a daily basis. He warned concerned officials the bay is in serious danger and many graphic evidences were enough to prove the finding, citing the massive wearing away of Sulaibikhat beach opposite Social Security Authority building.
He stressed the place stinks a great deal due to the enormous drainage waste dumped in the sea without treatment. He added the campaign started from the 40-kilometer Al-Khuwaisat Beach for five months and about 500 tons of environmental waste was removed during the operation, and some of the wastes were products of the Iraqi-Iranian war.
He wondered who could be responsible for the waste material of over 30 years. He added the campaign train later moved to Osheiraj, East Doha and Sulaibikhat beaches respectively. He indicated they have been working for three months consecutively and need additional four months to clear the beaches. He stressed the campaign cooperates with Coast Guard to trace sources of pollutions and wastes, and they discovered large quantities of them were from Umm Al-Naml Island due to proximity of the beach.
