Kuwait Cabinet Condemns Recent Mosque Attack In Saudi Arabia

The Cabinet on Monday reiterated Kuwait's condemnation of a recent attack targeting a mosque in the east of Saudi Arabia, which left a number of innocent people dead or wounded, terming it as a "terrorist act". The cabinet's condemnation came during its customary weekly meeting held in the cabinet's hall at the Kuwait International Airport under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Four people were killed on Friday when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Saudi Arabia's eastern governorate of Al-Ahsa. Another 18 people were injured in Friday's attack, the Saudi Interior Ministry announced in a statement.

The Cabinet reaffirmed Kuwait's denunciation of such terrorist acts that run counter to all heavenly religions and humanitarian values and norms, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a press statement following the meeting.

It also offered condolence and sorrow to the Saudi leadership and people over the victims of this human tragedy, wishing the injured swift recovery, he said. At the onset of the meeting, the ministers were apprised of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's departure to the UK to attend the fourth international donors conference on Syria.

His Highness the Amir is accompanied by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Oil Anas Al-Saleh, and several senior officials.

The Cabinet hoped that the conference would come up with fruitful steps that could effectively help the Syrian people and alleviate their bitter sufferings and woes. The ministers were then briefed on letters received by His Highness the Amir from the leaders of the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Albanian on several issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations.

They were also apprised of a letter received by His Highness the Amir from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who appreciated His Highness the Amir and government of Kuwait for efforts in the field of climate change, and invited His Highness the Amir to attend the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on climate change due at the UN headquarters next April.

His Highness the Amir was sent another letter from Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani.

Furthermore, His Highness the Prime Minister kept the ministers posted on the outcomes of the visit by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi to Kuwait last week, which tackled ways of promoting and developing existing bonds and broadening bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Locally, the cabinet approved a draft law revising Law No. 5/2005 aiming to revise some articles pertinent to the regulation of the work of the Kuwait Municipality and Municipal Council, and punishing violators of the building system by sentencing them to a term ranging between six months and seven years in jail, fining them or facing other penalties.

It also consented to a bill revising Article 16 of Law No. 106/2013 regarding money laundering and financing of terrorism, and another draft law amending the agreement on the protection of nuclear materials.

The ministers further approved recommendations on a draft decree amending the bylaws of Law No. 116/2014 on partnership between the public and private sectors, together with another draft decree endorsing a trade cooperation agreement between Kuwait and Iraq and a Kuwaiti-Estonian agreement on visa-exemption for holders of diplomatic passports. Finally, the cabinet discussed several reports bearing on the overall political developments in both Arab and international arenas.
