Kuwait Cultural Office Urged All Kuwaiti Students Seeking Scholarship To Study In The Us
Kuwait Cultural Office in Washington headed by Dr Aseel Al-Awadhi urged all Kuwaiti students seeking scholarship to study in the United States to ensure they comply with the prerequisite of obtaining the minimum average score of 5 in IELTS, which is an equivalent of TOEFL, reports Al-Anba daily.
The office issued some recommendations to the Ministry of Higher Education concerning the IELTS and TOEFL averages, which means that obtaining the required scores in those examinations will be a basic condition for accepting the applications of students for further study in the United States.
The recommendations contained in the detailed comprehensive report also included several other conditions, which indicate the majority of the US universities ranked from 1-194 demand an average of 79-100 scores in computerbased TOEFL or 6.5-7.0 scores in IELTS.
;The recommendations considered huge costs the parents of students expelled from study and those who dropped out while on scholarship incur at an average of $84,000 and noted the state treasury lost about $61 million in the last six years due to withdrawal or expulsion from study.
The Ministry of Education has announced that 162 secondary level students (Science, Letters and Religious Institute) were deprived of the first semester exams in Mathematics, Modern World History and English subjects for various reasons; while 2009 students were absent, reports Al-Jarida daily.
In a press statement, the ministry disclosed that 21,686 students registered to take the Mathematics exam but only 20,661 took the exam while 1,025 were absent and 84 were deprived of the exam. A total of 14,961 students registered to take the Modern World History exam but only 14,054 took the exam whereas 907 were absent.
