Kuwait Defends Handover Of Wanted Egyptians
Kuwaiti diplomatic sources have denounced the statement which has been issued by the Human Rights Watch on deportation of members of the terrorist cell linked to the Muslim Brotherhood group in Egypt, reports Al-Rai daily.
The diplomatic sources said the deportation of the eight Egyptians was carried out following the investigation and court verdicts issued against them in their country in accordance with the agreements signed between Kuwait and Egypt, not because they are from the opposition, reports Al-Rai daily.
The sources, in a statement to Al-Rai daily, denied the men were deported because they oppose the Egyptian government and added, they were deported because they were sentenced by the Egyptian courts and wanted by law in Egypt.
The sources pointed out that within the framework of cooperation between Kuwait and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Kuwait’s commitment to the Interpol agreement, the wanted persons were interrogated and then handed over to Egypt.
The sources said it is surprising that the cell members are described as ‘opponents’ saying there are thousands of Egyptians living in the country and it is but normal to have opponents but they live a decent life and are not subject to any action against the backdrop of their political positions.
It was earlier reported that the eight members of the militant cell allegedly affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood Group had fled to Kuwait after they were sentenced to jail terms of up to 15 years by Egyptian judicial authorities. Kuwait had returned the suspects to the Egyptian authorities based on the terms of agreements between the two countries. Further investigations were ongoing to find other members of the cell, as per the statement issued by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.
