Kuwait Science Club Announced That There Will Be Several Astronomical Phenomena Next Week
Kuwait Science Club announced that there will be several astronomical phenomena next week, among them the Geminid meteor shower, coupling of Mars with the moon and coupling of Jupiter with the moon.
In a press statement, Director of Astrology and Space Sciences Department in the club Ali Abdul- Kareem Boabbas disclosed the sky of Kuwait will witness the last remarkable astronomical phenomenon this year – the Geminid meteor shower produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, explaining it is called Geminid because of the zodiac sign Gemini (The Twins).
Boabbas explained that Geminid is considered the king of meteor showers as it leaves behind a tail of smoke which extends for a few seconds before it disappears and is regarded by many as the best shower in heaven, producing up to 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak. He said the meteor shower happens annually from Dec 4-17, revealing that this year the peak will be on the night of Dec 13 and morning of Dec 14.
Due to the fading crescent moon, it will be easier to view the meteor shower and it will be spectacular as the sky will be dark enough for an excellent show, he explained. He added the best time to watch the meteor shower will be from a dark location after midnight; indicating the meteors will radiate from the constellation Gemini, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
