Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), in coordination with the Direct Aid Society, announced Wednesday a new batch of medical assistance to treat victims in Somalia following the recent terrorist bombings in Mogadishu. In a statement to KUNA, Chairman of KRCS Dr Hilal Al-Sayer said that aid would be provided to hospitals in Somalia to treat the wounded in the recent bombings.

KRCS is urgently following the repercussions of the humanitarian situation there through its permanent contact with the humanitarian organizations in Somalia, and will continue to support Somali people in order to live in safety and peace, Al-Sayer said.

He also called on people in Kuwait to support the charity projects carried out by the association with its partners in Somalia, which lives one of the most crises. For his part, Chairman of the Board of Direct Aid Association, Dr Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan praised cooperation with KRCS to help Somali people, adding that there will be quick response by providing medical medicines to hospitals in Somalia following the terrorist attack that killed hundreds of innocent citizens.

There are four hospitals in Mogadishu in need of medicines and antibiotics to treat the wounded, he said. And stressed Kuwait role in providing aid to help the affected people everywhere and has played a prominent role in the relief efforts in Somalia in the last period. Meanwhile, the “Kuwait by your side” humanitarian campaign launched a project to deliver 4,000 food baskets to families affected by war in Amran Governorate in Yemen on Wednesday. The baskets contain one-month supplies of food, benefitting 4,000 families, member of the Yemeni- Kuwaiti Relief Agency Tariq Abdulwasea said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Yemeni official Abdulkareem Hanash thanked the Kuwaiti leadership in aiding Yemenis affected by the ongoing war. The Kuwait by your side campaign provides urgent aid and humanitarian services to Yemen, including food, water, education, shelter, and health. In the meantime, the State of Kuwait is committed to the process of aiding the Syrian refugees escaping from the deadly conflict in their country, said a Kuwaiti official Wednesday.

After the 11th meeting of the major donors’ group for Syria, the official tasked with humanitarian and international organizations affairs at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry Zayad Al-Mashaan said that Kuwait vowed at April’s Brussels meeting to support the future of Syria and neighboring countries to provide $300 million for the refugees between 2016 and 2018.

As part of Kuwait’s commitment to provide $100 million this year, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and other national entities have signed accords with countries hosting the refugees to make sure that the money was spent on aiding Syrians, said Al-Mashaan. He added that an additional sum of $28.9 million was donated to international agencies and organizations helping the refugees. Kuwait’s charitable organizations have also vowed at a meeting in Qatar to deliver $46 million worth of relief aid to the refugees, indicated the official who expressed pride in Kuwait’s ongoing humanitarian efforts. He also took the chance to thank all countries and international organizations providing necessary assistance to the Syrian refugees and those displaced in Syria. The major donors group for Syria was established after the conclusion of the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference on Syria in Kuwait in 2014. The group aims at establishing a platform for major donors to discuss cooperation within the framework of helping the Syrian refugees.
