The country’s tourism sector has prepared a plan to provide 15,000 job opportunities in the tourism industry by 2020  quoting informed sources. They said the sector is seeking to increase the number of touristic projects to target about 1.6 million tourists this year. The sources explained that four authorities are participating in the project for developing and promoting national tourism especially with the fall in oil prices.

The need for paying special attention to the tourism sector as a source of income has been understood. The project is expected to contribute in increasing the percentage of nonoil revenues to 14.5 percent of the GDP of 2017.

The sources revealed that some of the challenges faced in this regard include lack of making use of the strategic geographical position of Kuwait, absence of touristic landmarks in the country, high prices of land and long documentation process (bureaucracy) in issuing entertainment and tourism licenses. They also decried the lack of infrastructure that ensures advancement of the tourism sector.
