Kuwaiti Draft Law Over Hate Speech Welcomed
The Executive Office of the Arab Justice Ministers Council welcomed on Wednesday an indicative draft bill, submitted by Kuwait’s Justice Ministry, on combating hate speech.
The executive office has prepared a draft resolution to thank Kuwait for drafting such an indicative law aimed at preventing hate speech, and would refer it to the ministerial council on Thursday, Kuwaiti Justice Ministry’s Undersecretary Omar Al-Sharqawi said.
Al-Sharqawi made his remarks to KUNA after the conclusion of the 65th meeting of the Executive Office of the Arab Justice Ministers Council in Cairo. Furthermore, the office welcomed Kuwait’s hosting of the first meeting of the joint committee consisting of experts from Arab justice and interior ministries to study the Kuwaiti draft law, said the senior official.
At the 34th session of the Arab justice ministers’ council in Sudan, there was an indicative Arab draft bill to prevent blasphemy, he recalled, adding that his country, in that regard, submitted a draft law on combating hate speech in order to complete the Arab bill.
Moreover, the executive office approved Kuwait’s special proposal on boosting cooperation, coordinating Arab visions toward issues that are to be addressed during the 14th Session of UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and coordinating visions among Arab justice ministries regarding outcomes of the UN session, said Al-Sharqawi.
Meanwhile, the meeting discussed draft agendas for the forthcoming 35th session of the council of Arab justice ministers, slated for Thursday, and a number of legal and judicial topics regarding joint Arab action such as boosting joint cooperation among Arab League memberstates and cooperation between general secretariats at Arab justice and interior ministries, he noted. The executive office also reviewed a report by the council’s general secretariat, in addition to another report by the Arab Center for Legal and Juridical Research and several resolutions in favor of joint Arab action in justice and judiciary fields, added the Kuwaiti senior official.
