Kuwaiti Health Minister Performs Cochlear Implant Surgery On 14 Yr Girl

Kuwaiti Health Minister Dr. Basel Al-Sabah donned his surgical blue uniform to perform a surgical operation at the Zain Hospital, which is part of Al-Sabah Specialist Medical District. 

He implanted a cochlear in a fourteen-year-old girl to restore her hearing. A cochlear is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear.

This is the second time Dr. Basel conducted a surgery since his appointment as health minister. He conducted a surgery on another girl, aged 6, last January. 

Dr. Basel was also the first practitioner to launch the cochlear implant program in Kuwait in a bid to spare patients the pain of travelling abroad to undergo treatment in overseas hospitals.
