Kuwaitis Clash With German Police After Ministry Suspends Treatment

08 September 2016 Kuwait

Ten Kuwaitis stormed a medical centre run by the Kuwaiti Embassy in Frankfurt, Germany as the centre discharged their relatives after their health improved. The administrative decision to stop the treatment angered the family members who resorted to violent means.

They clashed with German officials which forced the police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order.  “The medical centre, which enjoys diplomatic immunity, has launched an inquiry into the incident,” said Kuwaiti Embassy health attaché Dr. Mubarak Al-Qabandi, adding that legal measures will be initiated against protestors.

In a statement to Alanba newspaper, he said that five Kuwaitis received treatment after getting injured in the clashes.  Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has decided to stop sending Kuwaiti patients overseas for treatment. Health Minister Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi issued the order which exempts patients suffering from cancer, children, complicated surgeries and other critical cases.
