Large Number Of Taxi Owners Protest, Air Grievances
A number of taxi owners organized a sit-in recently opposite the office of Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh, demanding suspension of the decision that they describe as “abusing” as it allows taxis to be lifted. They also complained about lack of parking areas allocated for taxies, adding that they suffer from financial difficulties due to malicious traffic citations.
A Kuwaiti citizen who owns a number of taxis Abdulaziz Al-Enezi said Major General Al-Sayegh had promised to meet them in the coming couple of days to solve the problems. He stressed that taxi offices suffer high losses due to the lifting of taxis, and making things hard for taxi drivers through enforcement of the points system, adding that another problem they face is limiting technical examination of taxis only during the morning shift at Capital Traffic Department. Al-Enezi highlighted that there are some apps that run taxis without obtaining relevant licenses, which has in turn affected the taxi offices to a large extent because such apps offer low prices compared to those offered by the offices as the owners of those apps do not bear any costs related to rents and others.
