The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Abdullah Al- Othman issued its ruling in the case related to the theft of case files including those related to TMAS Company. The case, which is known as “stealing of court files”, was filed against 15 people including lawyers and employees of Ministry of Justice.

Five of the lawyers, and five representatives of a law firm were sentenced to one-year imprisonment each. A secretary and a court clerk was sentenced to ten-year imprisonment, a doorkeeper was sentenced to seven-year imprisonment and a lawyer was acquitted. The Public Prosecution had charged the defendants with stealing files related to case involving Kuwait’s TMAS Company, as well as bribery and disclosure of confidential information.

Previously, the acquitted lawyer was released on bail of KD 5,000 after it was discovered that he is not involved in the crime. The bail requests of other lawyers were rejected on grounds of completing investigations. The fourth to ninth defendants were charged with offering grants to state employees for illegal purposes. They, with the help of 10th to 15th defendants, were also charged with bribery.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in a press statement, affirmed its keenness to follow up the case related to real-estate swindling which was recently referred to Public Prosecution. The ministry stressed that a committee has been formed to coordinate directly with the Public Prosecution and General Investigations Department as well as other investigative bodies, based on decision No. 442/2018.
