Madagascar Delegation Arrives In Kuwait To Solve Maids Issue
The Madagascar delegation arrives in Kuwait on Tuesday to coordinate the repatriation of a number of female domestic workers who have been working for some time, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Madagascar’s president Andry Rajoelina posted on his Facebook account that he had sent the delegation comprising representatives from the President’s office, foreign and labor ministries, to bring the maids back home – maids who were facing problems.
According to the Madagascar newspaper La Tribune, the delegation will discuss with the Kuwaiti government ways to resolve the situation of some workers, while the presidential delegation intends to meet the maids to find out who wish to return to their country and who prefer to stay in Kuwait.
The newspaper pointed out that the President Rajolina decided to send a delegation, after an electronic meeting on the Internet last week with a number of maids in Kuwait who complained of ‘suffering’ and wish to return home as soon as possible.
The Malagasy government in 2013 had suspended the granting of licenses to the operators of maids offices and prevented the sending of maids to work in the Arab countries, but has so far failed to dismantle the smuggling network, according to the newspaper, which facilitates the travel of maids to work in Kuwait and other cou
