Mew To Remove Infringements ‘hampering’ Electricity Supply

Teams from the Ministry of Electricity and Water continue to remove infringements hampering power supply to the Wafra farms, and educate farmers to trim nearby trees, which in the event of strong winds always threaten to disrupt power supply to the farms and cause more losses to the farmers.

According to official sources in the Ministry, the power cuts from the Wafra farms is due to the trees planted near the power lines and the neglect of farmers to cut off branches of these trees which dangerously sway near the power lines during windy seasons.

The sources told the daily the ministry is keen to sustain its services to consumers. However, negligence to protect the power lines which disrupt power supply forced the ministry to cut of these tree branches that disrupt power supply to the farms.

Sources added some truckers do not abide by permitted altitudes and as a result the overhead power lines are damaged. The same sources said great efforts are exerted by the government to control the irregularities and remove infringements in coordination with the General Traffic Department.

In the meantime, the sources said the concerned authorities have called on farm owners to cooperate with the ministry and cut down the trees close to the power lines, at least 4 meters away, to avoid power outages, in addition to protecting their safety and the continued power supply to their farms. The sources pointed out that the interruption of power supply usually occurs in the rainy season and the humidity is high and fog, but the ministry is keen through its various teams in that area to follow the violations and maintenance according to the schedules. The rate of electricity consumption in Kuwait is the highest among all countries worldwide, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to a study conducted by Bloomberg agency, the annual consumption in each house in Kuwait is estimated to be an average of nearly 40,100KW. In his latest book “Energy Kingdoms: Oil and Political Survival in the Persian Gulf”, former journalist and a member of Baker Institute for Public Policy affiliated to Rice University Jim Krane explained that Kuwait tops internationally in terms of electricity consumption, followed by Qatar with consumption of nearly 31,800KW, Saudi Arabia with nearly 23,000KW, UAE with 17,6000KW, and then Norway, USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden and Venezuela.
