The Ministry of Health has requested from the Finance Ministry an additional 228 million dinars to cover the needs of patients and medicines and chemicals, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily quoting informed sources said the strategic stockpile of some types of drugs is almost nearing end and the ministry is facing a serious problem to pay the supplier companies.

In a letter to the acting Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr Mohammed Al-Khashti the medical warehouses have warned that available funds are insufficient to cover the needs of patients and hospitals for the remainder of the current fiscal.

It has been reported the total commitments of the ministry until July 27 last year was 310 million dinars and the remainder of the financial appropriation for the current fiscal is 45 million dinars, not enough to cover the needs of patients and hospitals until the end of the current fiscal which ends on March 31, 2018.

However, some say the sources are surprised that the current request is 45 million dinars more than the previous fiscal, and if the ministry receives this money, the budget allocated for the purchase of drugs will be more than 565 million dinars, the largest in the history of the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the Al-Jarida newspaper quoting the Director for central administration of primary healthcare at the Ministry of Health Dr Rehab Al-Watian said the increase in health fees for expatriates has not affected their visits to health centers.

Al-Watian said the visits to health centers continue due to their proximity to the residential areas, unlike hospitals, as well as they offer equal services to both expatriates and citizens. “We cannot say that we have achieved full success, but we have indicators that help us to find deficiencies in work quality and follow up on all health centers,” Al-Watian added.

She stressed the ministry is continuing to expand the health centers, and there are several centers which will be opened in the new areas soon. She noted, preparing and equipping a health center is not easy because it needs a long period of study, the provision of medical and nursing staff and medical devices so that they are fully prepared to receive the visitors.
