Moi Officer Jailed For Forging Secondary School Certificate From Bahrain

Amid the recent fake certificates scandal over which government has been investigating 50 suspects with the expectation of uncovering hundreds more of fake and bogus certificates, the Criminal Court has sentenced a First Sergeant attached to the Ministry of Interior to five years in prison and sacked him from the job and ordered a refund of KD 233,000 with double the sum in fine for forging a secondary school certificate from Bahrain.

This indicates the culprits of fake certificate are liable to a similar judgment if the verdict is upheld at the two upper courts- Court of Appeal and Court of Cassation.

Meanwhile, a legal source disclosed the convicted Sergeant was charged for using the certificate as an official document with stamp of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Bahrain on it for attestation.

He said the culprit exploited good intention of the concerned staff to get the certificate attested at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because he forged information with reference to Kuwaiti Embassy in Bahrain.

He was also accused of obtaining the ‘amount to be refunded’ wrongly. This means that those caught with fake university degrees are liable to more severe penalties with fines running into millions, especially if they occupy senior official positions as reported few days ago.
