Moi Unable To Address Commuters Concerns

28 March 2020 Coronavirus

The Ministry of Interior has expressed their inability to address the concerns of residents who do not have driving licenses and require the services of taxis even in cases of emergencies, after a cabinet decision that suspended the plying of taxis on Kuwaiti roads.

A security source told Al Anba newspaper that they were not the competent authority to address this concern while pulling off almost 16,000 taxis from Kuwaiti roads.

The source revealed that there were 10,000 licensed roaming taxis and 6,000 call taxis, and they were warned not to violate the ban or their license and taxi would be impounded.

Most of the taxis are driven by Asians and owned by Kuwaitis and the banning of taxis will create a huge setback for the drivers who depend on this daily income.

Kuwait has been among the forefront in containing the spread of the Coronavirus by implementing the strictest measures to combat the spread of the virus in the country. All public transportation has been suspended and schools, offices and public spaces have been closed, including non-essential services.

More than 1231 people are in quarantine and 235 persons diagnosed COVID19 positive, out of which 64 have recovered and 11 in critical condition. The government has been providing world-class treatment to all affected patients and following all World Health Organization protocols in the treatment of this disease.
