Mp Announces Intent To Grill Minister Of Commerce

MP Al-Humaidi Al-Subei has announced his intention to submit interpellation requests against Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudan and Minister of Oil, Water and Electricity Bakheet Al-Rasheedi in the next parliamentary term.

Additionally, there have been talks on reshuffling ministers prior to the inauguration of the legislative term. If this happens, the MP will lose his political and constitutional standpoint against the minister; thereby, rendering his interpellation moot. When asked about the increasing number of interpellation motions being disclosed and submitted by lawmakers, Al-Subei pointed out the ministers have had more than enough time to address the main issues that the National Assembly has been raising since the beginning of its tenure.

Since no tangible progress has been witnessed so far, the ministers are pushing the MPs to resort to interpellation, he asserted. On the other hand, due to a large number of complaints from Kuwaitis studying in the United Kingdom, Al-Subei claims the Kuwait Cultural Office in London is by far the worst amongst the cultural offices around the world. He revealed he received some reports stating that employees assigned in the office are avoiding students’ queries regarding their affairs due to the absence of supervision.

The MP pointed out he raised the issue on infractions in documents submitted to the Minister of Education and Higher Education Hamed Al-Azmi but nothing has been done until now. He recently contacted the office for some clarifications and he received nothing but “false information and lies.”

Furthermore, MP Abdullah Fahaad submitted a number of queries to Al- Azmi regarding the publication of advertisements for private tutoring services. He said that besides the social media posts, advertising magazines have been publishing more and more ads for private tutors; thus, he asked the minister if teachers in public and private schools are allowed to do so. If not, he wants to know the measures taken against them. He also inquired if the ministry cooperated with the concerned authorities to stop this phenomenon and reasons for not providing regulated and supervised tutoring services in all educational districts.

Moreover, MP Khaleel Al-Saleh submitted a proposal to establish an authority for monitoring and evaluating medical practice in the country, similar to the proposal that MP Askar Al-Anizi submitted in early September. Due to the increasing number of deaths caused by medical malpractices, the MP proposed the establishment of an independent authority managed by medical practitioners who are not affiliated with the Ministry of Health. He suggested granting the authority all the powers it needs, in addition to provision of a hotline number for medical complaints in order to effectively monitor and evaluate medical operations and services.
