Mp Omar Al Tabtabaei Seeks Probe On Alleged Violations At Missions Abroad

29 January 2018 Kuwait

MP Omar Al-Tabtabaei has called on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid to investigate suspicions hovering around some Kuwaiti missions abroad. He disclosed there is suspicion of exploiting positions in missions of the Foreign Affairs Ministry on the domestic workers issue, warning that political accountability in this regard will reach the highest point. He said he sent a letter to the National Assembly, which will be presented in the next session, about the alleged complicity of some officials regarding the domestic workers issue. Talking about the no-confidence motion against Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh, Al-Tabtabaei believes the minister can fix the imbalances and obtain the confidence of the Assembly.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman MP Hamad Al-Hershani revealed the committee will hold two meetings on Tuesday — one with Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and another with Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah or his representative. In a press statement, Harshani said they will discuss with the foreign affairs minister the latest political developments in the regional and international arenas in view of the current situation in the region and some Arab countries as well as matters concerning the diplomatic corps. He added they will discuss with the interior minister or his representative the draft law approving a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation between the governments of the State of Kuwait and Republic of Iraq.

Moreover, the Human Rights Committee on Sunday decided to invite the interior minister and head of the Central System for Remedying Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) to its meeting on Thursday to deliberate on issues concerning Bedouns. Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi considers Sunday’s meeting a partial one due to lack of quorum, affirming that State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh apologized for not attending the meeting. He disclosed they discussed Sunday the arbitrary action against Bedouns, but they did not agree on a radical solution as the concerned authorities did not present any solution. He warned about the consequences of failure to address issues related to Bedouns like security restrictions and forged passports.

Furthermore, Chairman of the Education, Culture and Guidance Affairs Committee MP Auda Al-Ruwaie has unveiled the committee’s plan to hold an extensive meeting next Sunday with the minister of education and other ministry officials to find solutions to problems in the educational sector. He added the committee intends to hold a number of meetings in February to deliberate on draft laws deemed necessary for the development of the educational sector and then submit them to the National Assembly for approval.
