Mp Panel Discussed 2 Proposals On Forming A Committee To Follow Up And Organize The Population Structure

05 November 2017 Kuwait

The parliamentary Financial and Economic Affairs Committee will discuss on Sunday the two proposals on forming a committee to follow up and organize the population structure.

On the other hand, it is expected that the committee will not discuss in its meeting on Sunday the two bills included in the agenda of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the establishment of the Public Authority for Silk City, Boubyan Island and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port due to non-attendance of the government.

Committee Rapporteur MP Saleh Ashour explained that since the government will not attend Sunday’s meeting, they postponed discussion of these two draft laws until the new government is present.

He disclosed they will tackle the two bills on forming a committee which will follow up and organize the population structure, in addition to determining the cost; taking into account that it is imperative for the Parliament and the government to have a clear and strategic vision for the coming years to address the lopsided population structure issue.

He added the lopsided population structure caused economic problems like the budget deficit; warning that continuation of the same governmental approach will affect citizens in terms of employment opportunities and services such as health, education and others. He stressed the need for a clear strategy in determining the percentage of expatriates compared to Kuwaitis, the services provided to them and setting a quota for each nationality as it is unacceptable that the number of some communities are more than the citizens.

He pointed out that the biggest problem is visa trading as those engaged in this illegal trade recruit marginal and non-technical employees only to leave them on the streets without health insurance or job security, stressing the committee will focus on this issue.

Meanwhile, MP Ahmad Al-Fadel revealed that a few hours after the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the opening session of the Parliament, some MPs presented the grilling request against a minister to cause problem to the country.

He said he will not be surprised if MPs will immediately present interpellation motions against ministers in the new government but the Parliament will be dissolved if this happens. He added the next political scene might lead to an unconstitutional or constitutional dissolution of the Parliament and hold elections in which the results are unpredictable. He criticized what happened in the interpellation of acting State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, particularly the method of questioning and motion of no confidence.
